Accent UK
Accent UK return…
0Just a little reminder that Accent UK’s brand spanking new website is up and running! Their on-line shop is back – and gives you the perfect opportunity to grab yourself a copy of their new anthology Predators, as well as several other brilliant books, directly from them.
Predators features a strip by us (which the guys at Small Press Big Mouth raved about), and is priced at £7.99 ($14.99). If you prefer to buy it through your comic shop, though, you can use the Previews order code STK449777.
While you’re visiting the website, you might want to grab yourself copies of Robots and Western, which also feature strips by us!
Small Press Big Mouth Episode 33
0It’s fair to say we’re not averse to a little bit of shameless self-promotion when the opportunity arises, and the guys at Small Press Big Mouth have given us said opportunity with the release of their latest episode. They review a whole bunch of new comics and graphic novels, including Accent UK’s Predators – which we just happen to have a story in.
Did they like our piece? Well, you should probably go and listen to the podcast for yourself and find out. *cough* review at 53 minute mark *cough*
Predators is the latest themed anthology from the guys at Accent UK, and features 20+ self contained strips from emerging and established comics talent from around the globe, all wrapped up in a gorgeous cover from Kev Mullins:

Predators is available to order via Previews now (order code: STK449777), or you can order it directly from Accent UK.
Predators takes a bite out of Previews…
3Predators, the much delayed anthology from Accent UK, is now available to order in this months issue of Previews!
And why should you be ordering this book, you ask? Well, not only does it feature 20+ self contained strips from emerging and established comics talent from around the globe, but it also features Just Like You by us! Which looks a little like this, in case anyone hasn’t seen it:

And the cover – by Kev Mullins – looks like this:

We have a long association with Accent UK, having worked together on strips for their previous anthologies, and we’re glad we can continue that association and finally unleash this little tale on the world at large. It’s something markedly different from what we’ve done before, but if you want to know more, you’ll have to buy the book…
You can find Predators on Page 224 of Previews:

If you do want a copy, make sure your local comic shop orders one for you. Or, if you literally can’t wait to read it, the book will be getting its official release at BICS at the end of this month. So, really, you’ve got no excuse for not grabbing yourself a copy!
Predators Re-Scheduled for August’s Previews
0News reaches us that Predators, Accent UK‘s next anthology has been delayed once again – although only by a month or so. Hopefully, the book will now be available for pre-order in August’s edition of Previews. Obviously, we’ll be posting the order numbers when we have them.
Regardless, the book will be heading to the printers in the next couple of weeks, and should be available in time for Thought Bubble in Leeds, so if you’re there, you’ll finally be able to read our strip, Just Like You.

Other Stuff…
0A very quick post to let anyone who’s interested in such things know what’s going on with the two projects we’ve got lined up for Zarjaz and Accent UK. As anyone who’s been reading this blog for any length of time will know (and I can’t imagine there’s many of you), we have two other short comic strips complete and in the bag, and it looks like they’ll be seeing the light of day later this year…
Accent UK’s much delayed anthology Predators has been accepted by Diamond and will be in the July issue of Previews. We have a short strip in there called Just Like You, which looks a bit like this:

From "Just Like You"
We’ll have a more in-depth post about this (including order numbers and price) in due course.
ABC Warriors: Broken Dreams, on the other hand, is due to appear in Zarjaz #13, due out in November 2011. And here’s a sneaky peek:

A panel from ABC Warriors: Broken Dreams
Again, we’ll post something more when we have more concrete details.
And what’s next for you guys, I hear you cry? Well, give us a chance to get Babble out of the door, eh?
Getting off to a [slow] start…
1Wait, it’s 2011?! Already?!
OK, so there’s no denying that the new year has got off to a slow start for us, what with illness and trying to organise things in what we laughingly refer to as “real life”, but we’re now officially back at the grindstone, and Bryan’s continuing to post out of context work-in-progress screengrabs on his blog:

The first art produced in 2011
While it may not be the most exciting image in the world, it’s a small part of an important scene in the story. Honest.
Also, with the news reaching us that the 2000AD fanzine Zarjaz is going to be published three times a year (as is FutureQuake), it’s looking like our ABC Warriors strip, Broken Dreams, is going to be out there sooner than we thought:

Hammerstein, the fearless leader of the legendary ABC Warriors. Programmed to be the perfect soldier, to revel in the heat of battle, he's faced countless enemies through countless wars. But what happens during his downtime?
The strip should be appearing in Zarjaz #12, due out in the Summer. We’ll keep you posted. However, I – Lee – will also be in Zarjaz #11, the ABC Warriors special, with a strip called Tin Man starring everyone’s favourite ultra cool assassin Joe Pineapples:

Joe Pineapples: former member of the X-Terminators - the cadre of elite assassin robots - and one of the most deadly beings in the galaxy. Cool and calculating, he is a literal killing machine that nothing and no one can stop. But perhaps there's something that can make him pause...
Art is by Chris Askham, while lettering is from editor extraordinaire Bolt-01 (AKA Dave Evans).
Also out later this year, is the much delayed Predators from Accent UK, featuring our strip Just Like You, a little chiller in which not everything is as it seems…

From Just Like You
No exact release on Predators as yet.
For now, though, it’s back to work on Babble…
Accent UK’s Predators delayed until 2011
2Unfortunately, Accent UK‘s 2010 anthology Predators has been pushed back to 2011, due to simple storage problems – those books take up a lot of space when they’re all boxed up, and there’s only so many they can store. So, it looks like you’ll have to wait a bit longer until you see our strip Just Like You, finally in print.

Accent UK's Predators
Predators marks a bit of an Accent UK related hat trick for us, as it’s our third strip for them in a row (we teamed up for Robots and Western), but we had to break our streak to concentrate on Babble. Does this mean that our association with Accent UK is over?
Not by a long shot…
Remember, Robots and Western are still available to buy, if you need anything for the geeks in your life!

Robots (Previews order code: MAR083379) & Western (Previews order code: JUN090671)
And…we’re back! Kind of…
0Wow. Seems like an age since this site was last updated…
Anyway, after all the nonsense with Insomnia, we now know where we stand legally after we were released from our contracts in the way we were, and we’re ready to move on and get Babble out there. Hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, we’ll have a formal announcement later this month, but that’s all we can say at the minute.
In the meantime, both Bryan and Lee have been hard at work, with two completed projects in the bag, ABC Warriors: Broken Dreams for Zarjaz:

A panel from ABC Warriors: Broken Dreams
And Just Like You for Accent UK‘s upcoming anthology Predators:
Unfortunately, Predators has been pushed back until 2011.
However, Bryan is currently working on a Judge Joyce strip for Zarjaz:

While Lee (working with Dunk Nimmo and Bolt-01) is set to make his Zarjaz debut with a very special story called Death To The Future that marks the first ever crossover between the 2000AD fanzines Zarjaz and Dogbreath:

Death To The Future will be in Zarjaz #10 and Dogbreath #23, both of which will be getting their official launch at The British International Comic Show later this month. But, if you can’t wait that long, they’re both available now from the FutureQuake Shop.

Babbling all the way into Limbo…
0As everyone is no doubt aware, stories have been circulating around the Internet about Insomnia Publications and them ceasing to, well, publish. Unfortunately, this isn’t as clear cut a situation as you’d expect and no one’s sure how quickly – or even if – it’s going to be resolved.
So, it is with a heavy heart that we have to formally announce Babble is being put into limbo for the foreseeable future.
Hopefully, things will be worked out one way or another and we’ll be able to back to work on Babble and get it out there on the shelves and into your hands. We’ve poured a lot of work into the project, and we’re desperately hoping that we don’t have to watch it be shelved forever. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kind words and support for Babble. It means a lot to us that we had something people were genuinely looking forward to reading.
Never fear, though, because it’s not the last you’ve heard of us!
Coming soon[ish], we’ve got an appearance lined up for a future issue of Zarjaz, with a story called Broken Dreams, featuring a certain war robot…

A WIP panel from Broken Dreams
Later this year, we’ll be appearing in Accent UK‘s 2010 anthology Predators, with a story called Just Like You. With kind permission from the Accent UK team, here’s a sneak preview of that strip…
We also have a slew of fresh projects in the pipeline that we’ll no doubt ram down your throats in a blaze of shameless self-publicity, both here (while we still have the hosting) and on our respective blogs.
Needless to say, as soon as we have any more information on the future of Babble, we’ll be shouting it from the rooftops. And posting it here.
Welcome…
0Hello, and welcome to the official blog for Babble!
What is Babble, you ask? Well, it’s an original graphic novel by Lee Robson and Bryan Coyle that’s due to be published by Insomnia Publications. You can check out the Overview on the right of the screen to get an idea of what the book is all about, but over the next few weeks and months, we’ll be posting various and sundry items to whet your appetite and try and build a following for the books release.
In the meantime, you can check out some of the other work from myself, Lee, and Bryan in the Accent UK anthologies ROBOTS (Previews order code: MAR083379), WESTERN (Previews order code: JUN090671) and the upcoming PREDATORS (due for release in 2010):
You can also see our very first collaboration in FutureQuake #9:

FutureQuake #9
There’s not really much more to add at this stage, so, for now remember to befriend us on MySpace and ComicSpace and follow our Twitter feed for updates and possibly even the odd exclusive item.
So, all that’s left now is to spread The Word…
